How to Delete Your Social Networking Accounts

Have you had enough of social media and social networks?

Are you sick of spending hours upon hours in front of your computer screen making status updates, “liking” things, checking follower and fan counts and visitor statistics?

Feel like you need to get outdoors and actually talk to real people?

Then why not throw in the towel and commit social media suicide!

This article will show you how to pull the plug on your digital-self and delete your social networking accounts.

Facebook

There are a couple of ways to nuke your Facebook account.

1. You can temporarily disable your account
2. Permanently delete your account

I have covered this in detail by providing a step-by-step guide in a previous post on How to Delete Your Facebook Account.

Twitter

To deactivate your Twitter account:

1. Login to Twitter
2. Click Settings
3. Click Deactivate my account
4. Verify you want to do this
5. Done!

MySpace

To delete your MySpace profile:

1. Login to Myspace
2. Click My Account
3. Choose Account
4. Scroll down to the Account Cancellation section and and click Cancel Account
5. You’ll get an email with a link to complete cancellation

LinkedIn

To delete your LinkedIn account:

1. Log into the account you wish to close
2. Click on ‘Settings‘ found at the top of the home page
3. Click on ‘Close Your Account‘ under Personal Information
4. Select a reason for closing your account
5. Click on ‘Continue‘

Google

To delete your Google account:

1. Sign in on the Google Accounts homepage. (If you forgot your password, you can reset it)
2. Click the Edit link next to the ‘My products‘ list. On this page, you can delete your account
3. Confirm your account deletion. To do so, you’ll need to select these two options: ‘Yes, I want to delete my account,’ and ‘Yes, I acknowledge that I am still responsible for any charges incurred due to any pending financial transactions.

eBay

To close your eBay account:

1. Be sure that all your fees are paid and your account balance is zero
2. Submit a request to close your account

Yahoo!

To delete your Yahoo! account:

1. Enter your Yahoo! details
2. Terminate your account

Windows Live

To delete your Windows Live account:

1. Verify your identity
2. Close your account

StumbleUpon

To delete your StumbleUpon account:

1. Login and go to Settings
2. Click on Deactivate my account

Amazon

To close your Amazon account:

1. Cancel any outstanding orders in your account
2. Click on the <Contact> button to request your account be closed

PayPal

To close your PayPal account:

1. Login to your PayPal account
2. Click on My Account > Profile > (Account Information) Close Account
