How to Add a Facebook Like Box to your Website

I have previously written a post on How to Add a Facebook Fan Button to your Website, but since then Facebook has changed,

  • the word “Fan” to “Like“.. i.e. you no longer are a Fan of something.. rather, you Like something..
  • the page from which to generate the code required for a Like Box

It is very easy to add a Facebook Like Box to your website and this post will show you how.

Like Box

The Like Box is a social plugin that enables Facebook Page owners to attract and gain Likes from their own website.

The Like Box enables users to:

  • See how many users already like this page, and which of their friends like it too
  • Read recent posts from the page

Like the page with one click, without needing to visit the page.

If you are wanting to add a Like button to your site you may want to refer to my post How to Add a Facebook Like Button to Your Website.

Facebook Page ID

To get started head over to the Facebook Like Box page.

Here is where you customize the look and feel of your Like Box.. and it is really quite simple.

The only tricky bit is getting your Facebook Page ID,
Wrong ID

Most Facebook page owners have a vanity URL for their page.. mine is http://facebook.com/TheSocialMediaGuide.

Your Facebook Page ID is NOT the name you chose as your vanity URL (in my case “TheSocialMediaGuide“)..

If you enter your vanity name in the Facebook Page ID field.. no errors will appear.. but you will notice what is displayed in the preview window, is NOT your Facebook Page.

It is a cut-off portion of your Profile..

Correct ID

To get your Facebook Page ID you will need to login to Facebook and browse to your Page.

Now hover your mouse over your Page’s picture.. then take note of the URL that appears in your status bar at the bottom of the page.

The long number at the end of the URL is your Facebook Page ID.. make a note of it!

When you enter this number the Facebook Page ID field you will notice that your Facebook Page details displays correctly in the preview window,

Now just configure your preferences then click on the <Get Code> button,

Copy your code (this post only covers the iframe code),

Then click on <Done>..

Adding the Facebook Like Box to your Website

(This post only covers adding a Like box to a WordPress site)

Login to your WordPress blog and click on Widgets,

Drag the Text widget to the sidebar,

Paste in the code you copied from before.. then click on <Save>,

(If you have a caching plug-in you may now need to empty it so this displays on your blog)

Done!

You have just added a Facebook Like Box to your website,

Finally..
