My problem with su.pr like ow.ly is the iframe wrapper . If i navigate to another page on the linked to site (with toolbar) the web address does not change. So if i find new content on the same site i cannot share the address. If i close the su.pr bar i end up back at the original link address and have to repeat my step to get back to the content i wanted to share.

Hi thanks for the comment

You do have a point about StumbleUpon users potentially spending minimal
time on your page, as they continually Stumble through.. but if the content
is newsworthy they, like others, will spend time reading your post and
making comments.

Don't forget you will still attract visitors from the original platform that
your Su.pr link was posted on (eg Twitter, Facebook, etc).. ie
non-StumbleUpon members.

The point I am making is that if you used a plain old URL shortener like
bit.ly, there is no *potential* to expose your content to additional
readers, beyond the original platform you have posted on.

Thanks again for the comment!

Matt

--------------------------------------------------

I used su.pr for a while then realised it was effecting stats - the StumbleUpon traffic means you end up with a higher number of visitors spending less then 5 secs on the page. i recently questioned in my blog whether the opportunity to entice new visitors was negated by the lack of engagement

http://mab397.wordpress.com/2009/08/11/trafficv...
