How many of your friends at work, or on Facebook, or on Twitter have asked you.. how do I do this?.. how do you do that?

You know the answer and the steps involved, but it’s just too hard to tell them over the phone or via email.

Have you thought of creating a screencast (with audio narration) that shows them the exact steps involved, to answer their question?

Now you can! With Screenr.

Screenr allows you to create screencasts for your followers on Twitter, freely and easily.

A screencast (aka video screen capture) is basically a recording of what you see on your PC’s monitor and can include audio narration. Just as a screenshot is a picture of a user’s screen, a screencast is essentially a movie of the changes over time that a user sees on their monitor.

Screenr is a web-based recorder so there is nothing to download, you can record on both Mac or PC and it plays everywhere on the web (even iPhones).

To record a screencast using Screenr click on the record button,

record

When the Java pop-up displays, click on <Run>,

java

Move the recording frame where you need it,

position frame

Choose your microphone (if you want to add audio narration),

choose microphone

Select the Capture Size (or just drag the recording frame to the desired size),

capture size

Then click <Record>,

record

Click on <Done> or press Alt+D to stop the recording,

done

You will now be presented with a preview of your screencast.. and you can also write a description about it.. when you are done click on <Tweet It!>,

preview

Twitter will now ask for you to authorise Screenr to connect to your account.. fill out your Twitter details and click on <Allow>,

allow screenr

Screenr will now automatically go through the publishing process where your screencast is converted to a format that is ready for publishing to the web,

publishing

Your screencast will be now be sent out as a tweet, with the URL of the screencast,

screencast published

This is the test screencast I published during the making of this post – http://screenr.com/8ls

When someone clicks on this URL in Twitter, they will be redirected to your screencast in screenr, where they can play, share, embed, re-tweet this screencast.. or reply directly back to you,

The <Screenr Bookmarklet> button is another cool feature.

Just drag this into your toolbar to provide you with the capability of being able to quickly start recording from anywhere,

Managing your screencasts is very easy. Head over to screenr and click on the <Sign in with Twitter> button,

Finally..

Screenr is a brilliant tool that extends the power of Twitter and allows people to easily create and share screencasts with others.
