TwitCam is a service that enables you to stream live video on Twitter and chat to viewers in real time.

It is extremely simple.. it’s free.. there is no signup required and nothing to download. All you need is a Twitter account and a webcam.

Login to Twitcam using your Twitter details,

twitcam login

Ensure your webcam is setup and ready to go, then click <Broadcast Live>,

broadcast liveWhen the Adobe Flash Player Settings pop-up appears, click on <Allow>,

allow

If your camera is setup correctly you will now see yourself,

twitcam camera

Enter in a tweet and then click on <Broadcast & Tweet> to go live to the world,

broadcast and tweet

The camera will start streaming live video to the world on Twitter. Twitter users will see your tweet and a link to view the live video,

live tweet

When a user clicks on your link in Twitter, they will be shown your live streaming video on TwitCam.

While people are viewing your video on TwitCam, they can initiate a live chat session with you by logging into TwitCam with their Twitter details.

They can then send you a message during the broadcast,

message

And you can reply to their message,

message reply

And you can both chat away..,

message 2

To stop broadcasting click on <Stop Recording & Begin Archiving>,

stop recording

Your video will now be archived.. you can view all your videos by clicking on My Profile,

my profile

And all your videos will be displayed,

archived videos

To delete a video just click on it.. then click on <Delete Video>,

I was advised by TwitCam that you can broadcast for up to 5 hours.. see their TwitCam comment here.

  • This ia an amazing product and clearly heralds the next evolution of the interent to 3.0 or at least 2.1

Daniel. Can you email me privately so I can ask a few questions of this? For example I'd guess a one hour webcam broadcast uses up some 300 megabytes if low res, and if picked up by say 100 people at the same time, this would entail a flow through from the Twitter server of some 100* 300 megabytes. Who pays for this? We have been trying to find some way of effecting a one hour a week seniors broadcast from our offices but it so far has proven to be very hard to come to grips with it all. This system sounds ideal. Regards Ray
  • Hi Ray

I got a reply back from TwitCam and they have advised you can broadcast for up to a maximum of 5 hours.

    See the reply here http://getsatisfaction.com/twitcam/topics/how_l...

  • There is another service called TinyChat - http://tinychat.com/, which I plan to do a guide / review on in the next week or so, which may also meet your needs.

Thanks Matt. I'm looking at JustinTv as well at the moment and it seems to
me to be sensible. Will now go though tinychat as you suggest.

    Kind of you

  • Hi Ray

I have emailed TwitCam to find out how long broadcasts can be.. they didn't actually specify a "limit" on their website.

    Regards
    Matt
  • Daniel
I would record it and then send out link for all to watch in their own time. I am not really technically minded so there could be a better solution.
  • greypath73
Thanks Daniel. We are well across this approach, but we are seeking some
inkling of exactly how we can send video live, as it happens, and cheaply.
We do a lot of standard Youtube/links etc.

    Regards and thanks again.

  • If broadcasts can be longer than one hour, this would be ideal.

Just start recording, viewers could either watch it in realtime.. or (as you said) send out the link so people could view at their own leisure.
  • I totally agree.. it is amazing how fast things are evolving.
