Create a Page for your Business on Facebook

Facebook, Page, Social Media — By Matthew Tommasi on 1 July 2009 4:04 pm

Do you own a business? Are you a member of a club or team?

Why not gain further exposure for your brand by creating a presence that looks and behaves like user profiles to connect and engage with your customers and amplify your voice to their friends.

A public figure, business, or brand can create a Facebook Page to share information, interact with their fans, and create a highly engaging presence on Facebook. You can easily manage your Facebook Page through your personal account.

More than 3 million users become fans of Facebook Pages every day.

Overview

  • Create a Facebook Page – a Facebook Page is a public profile that enables you to share your business and products with Facebook users
  • Start the Conversation – when your fans interact with your Facebook Page, stories linking to your Page can go to their friends via News Feed. As these friends interact with your Page, News Feed keeps driving word-of-mouth to a wider circle of friends.
  • Drive Customer Awareness – spread the word even further with Facebook Ads. You choose your graphic, text, and target audience.

Create a Page

Go to Facebook and click on the Click Here link to create a new page,

Now select the Category, enter the Name, authorise and sign.. then click on <Create Page>.

The name you give your Page is permanent, so make sure it’s the one your fans and customers will recognise.

create page

Either sign into Facebook with your existing account or create a new account as necessary,

sign in

Add a Photo

You’ll be able to upload an unlimited number of photos. The most important is the profile picture that Facebook users will see (as a thumbnail) in News Feed when their friends interact with you.

Click on Change Picture to add a new picture to your new page,

change picture

Write something about your page,

write something

Tabs

Like user profiles, Pages have multiple tabs.

By default, your Page has a Wall tab for you and your fans to share content, an Info tab for you to share business information, a Discussions tab for discussions and a Boxes tab for application modules.

The more rich content you add, the more ways users can interact with it and spread that connection to their friends.

The choices are yours and all these features are free and unlimited.

Click on the Info tab then fill out all the relevant info then click <Save Changes>,

info tab and details

Settings

Optimise your Page’s performance by clicking the Edit Page link and setting a variety of controls,

edit page

Under the Settings section click on the Edit icon the fill out your preferences accordingly.. then click on <Save Changes>,

settings

Under the Wall Settings section click on the Edit icon the fill out your preferences accordingly,

wall settings

Continue configuring the settings for the rest of the options on this page.. filling out your preferences accordingly.

NetworkedBlogs

I have compiled a guide on how to import your blog to your Facebook profile using the NetworkedBlogs application. This application will also pull updates from your blog or website into your Facebook Pages.

As mine is already setup this is what my Pages wall looks like,

networkedblogs

Ads

Facebook Ads can link to your Page, reach your exact target audience, and increase your fan base. Since Facebook can automatically enhance your ads with stories about these fans engaging with your Page, advertising your Page can generate a virtuous cycle of consumer engagement over time.

Click on Promote Page with an Ad,

promote with ads

Fill out the advertise form as appropriate.. choosing which method of payment, etc

advertise

Publish

Then click on Publish this page to share your Page with the world. This public profile has the power to let your customers engage their friends on your behalf.

publish page

Done!

Your Page is now setup and your business/brand is now visible to Facebook’s 200+ million members!

    Greetings,
The comment by amyrclark9@gmail.com hit the nail on the head and there is no clear answer to this issue posted here on exactly step by step on how to do it. Including, how can there ever be a personal page when it is only for a business, whose personal page is it supposed to be, whose name goes there if it is a business and only a business and nothing other than a business, like IBM, or Microsoft or whatever?

Did IBM set up a personal page first, etc? etc, etc, etc, etc. Step by step!

I would be very, very surprised and happy if anyone here knew this kind of high tech stuff!
Please tell me how to do it, I dare you!
    Thanks!
    Natch

    • Yes you do need a Profile to create a Page.

Please see page 2 of the Official Facebook Pages Manual here http://thesocialmediaguide.com.au/2010/05/13/the-facebook-pages-manual-and-other-guides/

To build a Page you have two options,

      1. If you already have a profile go to http://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php

      2. If you do not have a profile go to http://www.facebook.com/ to create one.

The Profile you create (or already have) will become the Administrator of that Page.

        Hello and thanks!
        1) We cannot as a business figure how to set up a Profile as in the Facebook Pasges Manual of definitions you sent us it specifically says a “Profile/ User Account is a Facebook profile is intended to represent an individual person to connect with their friends and share information about their interests.”
As a business corporation we are not an
        “individual person”
        and
        our intent is not to
“share information about our interests” but is rather to promote our business.
Our name is the name of a business corporation.
Specifically, how then do we creat a profile for a business corporation and not an individual person?

        2) How does the issue come about that many have unsuccessfully failed to avoid and that used to be a topic here, of losing the ability to use your company vanity url because you used it as your personal page or in some other manner so therefore it can now never become your company url? There was an issue something like that discussed, do you know what the issue is and how to avoid it?

  2. This is cool. I need to find the time to do this. The graphics make look easy. Many thanks

when it makes you register personally to manage your fan page I just put my name and no other info (I already have a well established personal page and didn’t want to endanger connecting it to that since I’m new at all this), A) can you manage more than one page, up to how many and B) if so, how can I link the fan page to my REAL facebook page so I don’t have to start again from scratch? and C) what is the advantage to having a fan page as opposed to a friends page for a business? it seems to me it’s much easier to make suggestions as many friends deep as you wish if it’s a friends page.

    Good articles here-thank you.

I am trying to set up fan pages for a business who mistakenly set up the business as a ‘friend’ instead. I have gotten the fan page up, but cannot figure out how to ad the ‘become a fan’ button to the facebook page?

  5. M@tt says:

As far as I am aware you do need to have a personal profile to be able to
    create a fan page.

Once it is setup, you could make additional people administrators so that it
isn't just linked to your profile.

    Hello,

I noticed you already had a personal account when you created your business page. Do you have to have a personal account to create a fan page? I attempted to setup a fan page for the company I work for, but when I signed up a personal account was automatically created. I only want a fan page, without any connection to a personal account but when I tried to deactivate the personal account, the fan page and all the work I did to create it, disappeared.

I look forward to hearing back from you. I guess what I need to know is if I have to have a personal account attached to a business fan page, or can the fan page be created an maintained without being attached to some type of personal account?

    Thanks!

    Amy

Yes I am all for that.

Unfortunately I'm not a developer and my knowledge of FBML is non-existent.

If you or anyone one else have any links or resources to FBML guides or tutorials, please feel free to post them here.

    Thanks
    Matt

Are you using the NetworkedBlogs application to pull your blog's posts into
    your Facebook page?

  10. rachelholtop says:

I have been monitoring a company's page for the past few months, but all of a sudden many of the posts, including events and notes are showing up on the profile associated with the page (my personal name), instead of the business page. I don't use the personal profile and only want the posts to be associated with the company. Does anyone know the solution to the problem? If I could delete the profile without deleting the page that would be great.
